Kerala: School uniforms compulsory from December 13

School students in Kerala will be required to wear uniforms to school compulsorily from December 13, the Education Minister of Kerala, V Sivankutty announced on Saturday, reported the Times of India.

When schools in Kerala reopened in November for physical classes after the improvement of the pandemic situation in the country, the government guidelines for school reopening announced that school attendance and uniform would not be more compulsory for students in the initial stages. The Minister said that the move to make school uniforms compulsory for students in Kerala was being made in order to clear any confusion regarding the identity of the students with respect to the use of certain facilities like bus fare concession. The minister also announced that schools for the differently abled and school hostels can resume from December 8. He also added that differently abled students of general schools may also start attending school from December 8.

With regard to the Plus One seats, the minister said that 72 additional batches have been sanctioned due to a seat shortage in 21 taluks. The new batches would include 61 Science batches, 61 Humanities batches and 10 Commerce batches.
