Kerala schools to reopen from November 1

The Kerala government has announced that physical schools will reopen for Classes 1 to 7 and 10 to 12 from November 1, and for classes 8 and 9 from November 15. Given that schools have reopened for some classes in almost all states in the country, Kerala’s decision has been eagerly anticipated by students, parents and teachers.

It is expected that going by the experience of other states, Kerala will also adopt a staggered timings for classes to ensure social distancing between students. After almost an year and a half of online classes, students and parents are looking forward to reopening of physical schools. Given that there is still almost a month and a half to go before the reopening of the schools, it gives sufficient time for the schools to ensure that they can make arrangements in the schools and classrooms in order to comply with Covid protocols as well as ensuring that all teachers are fully vaccinated.

The modus operandi for the functioning of schools is expected to be announced by the government after a high level meeting of teachers, parents and officials of the education department.
